Getting Started

Practicing yoga is both a physical endeavor and a personal journey for any student. It requires personal commitment as well as support and guidance. If you live with a disability, it is especially important to believe yoga is not only possible for you, but that you can experience its wonder and benefits just like anyone else
Find a yoga teacher
- The International Association of Yoga Therapists provides a list of registered yoga therapists.
- Contact rehabilitation centers in your area. Many centers now offer adaptive yoga classes.
- Contact local yoga studios and ask if anyone teaches people living with disabilities.
- If you are not comfortable with yoga, explore other mind-body practices such as meditation or Tai Chi. The most important thing is to begin connecting your mind and body in whatever way works best for you.
