Julie Riff
Adaptive Yoga Instructor
Julie describes herself as a SEEKER: a seeker of adventure, knowledge, experience, relationships, awareness and spirituality. She started practicing yoga in 2000 and quickly became a yoga fanatic. All types of yoga captivate her: Ashtanga, Bikrum, Iyengar, Anusara…she loves them all. She believes yoga is a wonderful and inspiring path to physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Yoga, to her, seems to be a healthy approach to almost any problem: poor self-image, body pain, mind pain, bad diet, addictions, political angst, relationship traumas, stress, financial concerns or character defects. She believes it is an antidote to the pace and priorities of modern life. “Just do yoga!” she cheerfully advises friends, family and total strangers with bad posture. The world has become her yoga studio, full of yoga props: kitchen counters, the trees in her yard, the walls, the doors, her husband, the dog. She finds it’s a wonderful way to participate in the dance of life, and she wants to share the joy and insights she gains from yoga with anyone who yearns for the peace and freedom that can be found in the practice of yoga. That is why working with Matthew Sanford has been such a profound and wonderful opportunity for her to share, and more importantly, to learn. Julie has completed teacher-training workshops with Aadil Palkhivala and the Anusara Teacher Training course. Julie assists in Matthew’s adaptive yoga class at Courage Center and is a student in Mind Body Solutions’ adaptive yoga training program.
